As airlines continue to tack on charges for checking bags, it's never been more crucial to find a lightweight, functional option you can easily heave into the overhead compartment—no assist necessary.

Samsonite's Bright Lite line of luggage (in glossy pink, blue, or black) infuses a jolt of style into an otherwise sensible suitcase. Case in point: The ding-resistant polycarbonate shell clocks in at 6.6 pounds, and all four wheels spin 360 degrees for easy maneuvering. Good thing there's no fee for efficiency.

  • Spring has sprung in Washington, D.C. – A. Christine Maxfield recently posted this on This Just In… Newsweek's Travel Blog:

If there's an ideal time to visit our nation's capital, the month of April would be it. D.C. has always welcomed families with budget-friendly attractions (walking through the National Zoo, touring the free Smithsonian museums), and now it welcomes the start of spring with its annual National Cherry Blossom Festival (March 27-April 11, 2010) and the 40th Earth Day.
